Peter Gabriel – Sledgehammer - Aardman Animation

Peter Gabriel – Sledgehammer - Aardman Animation

This animation is the music video for Peter Gabriel's song Sledgehammer.

The video includes the artist himself, but seems to be made from various stop motion techniques.

There is a lot going on in this video, which proves to be a lot to take in and write about. Key points include objects 'building' and 'flying' around the singer, the singer being painted blue, ted into ice, and even into one of Aardman's famous clay animated dolls. Nearer the end of the video there is also a stop motion sequence of objects in a room being moved around with the singer.

There is quite a lot of use of metamorphosis within this video, for example the clay figure of the singer's head being turned into a ying and yang sign, which then turns into two fish, and also acing, as the singer has to 'react' to the objects that are 'moving' around him.

I did quite like this animation, as the various stop motion techniques used were interesting and entertaining, however I did feel at times there was possibly a little too much going on at once, and sometimes the different scenes moved on to the next too quickly.
