Pas a Deux – Gerrit van Dijk en Monique Renault (Nederland, 1988)

This animation was created from what looks like hand drawings in coloured pencil. Although this means that the colours and lines of the drawings are not exactly the same in each frame, I personally like the effect it gives the characters, and it also enables the flow of transformations of the different characters.
This animation heavily uses metamorphosis throughout, with the two main male and female figures morphing into different iconic figures of throughout the years, of both real and fictional characters. These transitions are fairly fluid and tie in with the dances that the figures perform.
Although the whole animation is taken in a single "shot", this shot does zoom in and out to aid the transitions and metamorphosis of the characters.
A musical soundtrack is used throughout the animation, but changes between different dance styles, and the characters respond to this by dancing in similar styles to the music accompanying them.
I personally really like this animation, although it was made using simple pencil media, I think the idea is very clever and creative, and the flow of the piece both eases and entertains the audience.
